Faith Stronger Than Bars
In the quiet, rural district of Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh, Rambha Devi, a wife, mother, and now a pillar of faith, has recently come through the worst trial of her life. It started four years ago when Rambha’s world was vastly different. Like many in her village, she followed the traditions she had inherited, immersed in worldly ways, with no understanding of the living God. But everything changed when her sister-in-law, once consumed by idol worship and trapped in a deeply abusive marriage, shared her testimony with her.
Rambha recalls how her sister-in-law’s home was once filled with idols, including a real elephant. Her husband, hardened and violent, regularly beat her so severely that she was often left barely conscious.
Yet something miraculous happened when her sister-in-law encountered Jesus. The God she came to know was alive, and He answered her prayers. Slowly but surely, her husband’s heart began to change, and her home was filled with peace and love.
This transformation stirred something in Rambha. If Jesus could do this for her sister-in-law, what could He do for her own family? Her husband, too, was struggling, bound by addictions, but Rambha chose to pray for him and also told him about Jesus, sowing seeds of faith in a hardened heart. Her husband changed. He left his addictions behind, and together they began reading the Bible and praying.
Their home became a place of worship, not just in spirit, but in action. Though her husband wasn’t a pastor, his heart burned with passion for sharing the Word. The place where they once lived in quiet anonymity became a beacon.
They began hosting Sunday services right in their own house, after the previous location proved unhygienic and unsafe. The fellowship grew, and so did their faith.
But soon, the unthinkable happened, while leading the service, her husband was abruptly interrupted. A complaint had been lodged against him. Two to three people arrived and took him into custody, he was questioned and soon after, sent to prison. Rambha and her two children, aged 12 and 14, were at home when it happened.
Yet even in that trial, Rambha’s voice did not waver when she spoke of her trust in God.
“I believe He will release my husband,” she said with unwavering faith. That faith was not in vain. Recently, Pastor Ramadhar was released, a testimony to the mercy and justice of God. The case is still under review in the High Court, but they are no longer alone in this battle.
Through this time, Rambha experienced what it truly means to be part of the body of Christ. Pastor Manoj, who is known to her husband, stepped in to help her with rice, dal, channa, and masalas.
Believers from nearby did not abandon her family. Even villagers, moved by her situation, offered help. “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18.
Though Pastor Ramadhar is now home, the family still faces hardship. Their needs are pressing, especially for monthly rations and school fees for their children. With no steady income and an ongoing legal case, their survival hinges on continued support and prayers from those around them.
The Persecution Relief family is aware of their situation and remains committed to standing by families like theirs. Rambha’s story is not one of despair, it is one of relentless hope.
Don’t pray to stop Persecution; pray for the strength to face it. Shibu Thomas, Founder- Persecution Relief.
