Chains to Courage

Chains to Courage

In a quiet corner of Ayodhya district, in Uttar Pradesh state, Pastor Sarju, his wife, daughter, and his sons faced cruel injustice because of their faith in Jesus. Some years ago, when they were not saved, Pastor Sarju was a sick man, but after experiencing healing in his body, the whole family decided to give their lives to Christ.

Soon, Pastor Sarju began serving both as a farmer and a humble Pastor, shepherding a local fellowship. But faithfulness attracted attention, and opposition. One Sunday, during a worship service, two media men barged in and began recording. They questioned the congregation aggressively. Later that day, police arrived and took Pastor Sarju into custody, falsely accusing him of bribing people to convert. He was released, but it wasn’t over.

Authorities later detained his son, using him as bait. When Pastor Sarju rushed to the station to intervene, his son was released, and he was arrested instead.

Despite multiple investigations, authorities found no foreign funds or illegal activity. But he remained in jail for several months—humiliated, physically weakened, and separated from his family.

During this time, his wife and children stood in prayer. His daughter Pinky, especially, became a pillar of strength. She shared their testimony, encouraged others, and became a voice for the persecuted in their region. Together, the family clung to Scriptures that anchored their souls:

Isaiah 41:10 – “Fear not, for I am with you.”

Psalm 118:17 – “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.”

Isaiah 54:17 – “No weapon formed against you shall prosper.”

Finally, by God’s grace, Pastor Sarju was released after 9 months and 20 days in jail. Though justice is still pending, the Lord has brought him back to his family. Their journey of faith is far from over, but they continue to stand strong—knowing that He who began the good work will be faithful to complete it.

Pastor Sarju is very grateful for Persecution Relief family who stood by his family members when he was imprisoned. Their vital support in terms of the livelihood of the family and prayers really meant a lot to him and his family.

In a time when fear silences many, this family chooses faith. In a world of compromise, they choose courage. Their story is not just one of survival—it is a testimony of victory in Jesus’ name.

Persecution is the source of Church growth! Rejoice! Bro. Shibu Thomas, Founder- Persecution Relief.
