AFFLICTED BUT NOT DEFEATED
“_For we do not want you to be unaware, brethren, of our affliction which came to us in Asia, that we were burdened excessively, beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of life.” 2 Corinthians 1:8_
*Ponder*.
The Apostle Paul writes to the Corinthian church about the great affliction that he is facing. He is at the edge of death and greatly burdened, yet his trust is solely in God. This is an encouragement for us because, when we are faced with extreme situations that are beyond our strength, our trust and reliance are in God alone. Our strength is human strength, but it is the strength of grace that empowers us to endure. It was this strength of God’s grace that enabled Paul to endure to the end, and the same grace will carry us through.
*Commit*.
When we are burdened beyond our natural strength, do we rely on the strength of God’s grace, which is lavishly poured out on us?
*Pray*.
Let us humbly pray that the strength of God’s grace, which far exceeds our own strength, will empower us to endure to the end.
