Pastor Hunuk Stephen, Head of Assemblies of Believers Church, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, spoke to Persecution Relief, briefing about a Church attack on Sunday, 23rdSeptember 2018.
Pastor Shailender Emmanuel, ministers at the Branch Church of Assemblies of Believers Church, Shastri Nagar, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The congregation have been gathering for the last 6 years at the property of Mr. Varun, which has been rented for this purpose.
During the evening Sunday Worship Service on 23rdSeptember, around 60 Believers were assembled along with 40 sisters and children. A few local political leaders, including Mr. Misra, an ex-Corporator, barged into the church, shouting slogans and making false accusations of conversion. They were accompanied by Police Officials, who with loud voices, raised a lot of questions, terrorizing and spreading fear among the women and children.
In a ploy to separate Pastor from the rest of the congregation, the fanatics asked Pastor to come downstairs as they wanted to speak to him further. As Pastor made his way downstairs, he was shocked to see a larger mob of religious fanatics gathered. Some of them physically manhandled him, hauling him by his collar and pushing him around.
By the grace of God, Pastor with great wisdom, handled the situation very coolly, not being provoked by their wild accusations. The mob finally left after threatening Pastor with dire consequences, if meetings continued to be held at the location.
Speaking to Persecution Relief, Pastor Shailendra mentioned that this morning, they were summoned by the House Owner, who under pressure, has asked them to vacate the premises by the end of today. While rent has been paid until end-October, Pastor has decided to move out and look for alternate accommodation.
Religious fanatics have been at loggerheads with Christian missionaries, accusing them of converting people through coercion and allurement to their faith.
Church, pray that the Sisters and the children who were traumatized by the entire episode, will stay strong in the Lord.
Pray that all believers may stand steadfast in the Lord, in spite of these Church attacks.
Pray that Pastor may find alternate accommodation before the following Sunday.
Pray that there might be a major mobilization of prayer for this key state Uttar Pradesh, and that God may send His workers who will turn the tide for the gospel.
