Shut-down of Church’s continue even after 3 weeks, Uttar Pradesh

The unprovoked offensive against Churches in Uttar Pradesh, continues unabated by religious fundamentalists, falsely accusing Pastors of luring people from other religions, by performing miracles or offering allurements.

Another such incident took place at Jamdaha village in Shah Ganj Block in Jaunpur District of Uttar Pradesh State.

Pastor Ram Bachan Bhind has been ministering since 2008, with “Andhakar seh Jyoti ki aur” Church, which when literally translated means, “From Darkness to Light Church”.

Around 1000 believers gather every Sunday to praise and worship Jesus Christ, at a makeshift tent, built of Coconut fronts and tree branches on his own private property. Several people who attend the worship service have been healed supernaturally of their prolonged illness and delivered from demons, bondages and family curses etc.

On Sunday, 23rd September Police visited the Church and demanded that it be closed down with immediate effect. Religious fundamentalists spreading false rumours, accused Pastor of converting people by spreading false information about Hinduism.

The believers are stopped and the police force them to go home. It is now over 3 weeks since the village Christians have gathered for worship service.

Several house churches have been prevented from holding prayer gatherings, which is part of an ever-widening nationwide operation targeting unofficial “house churches” across India. Anti-Conversion Laws are often used by religious fundamentalists and Police as ammunition to launch criminal complaints against Christian leaders. These arbitrary Church attacks by the police go against the rule of law.

Uttar Pradesh continues its unabated attack against Christians, Churches and Christian Institutions. Persecution Relief have recorded 51 incidents of persecution this year until the month of September.

Freedom of religion in India is a fundamental right guaranteed by Article 25-28 of the Constitution of India. Every citizen of India has a right to practice and promote their religion peacefully.
