Reverend arrested for ‘hate speech’

In a shocking incident, a religious preacher has been arrested in Hyderabad for allegedly insulting “Bharat Mata” by posting a “hate speech” on social media, on Sunday, 17 Aug 2017.
Yalamanchili Vijay Kumar, Director of an organisation called Christ Gospel Team, allegedly made a derogatory speech about “Bharat Mata” – the national personification of India as a mother goddess. He was quoted as saying that “Bharat Mata has 3-Crore husbands” which has apparently hurt the sentiments of the Hindus, calling it derogatory and inflammatory.

Police arrested Rev. V. Vijay Kumar for the apparent ‘hate speech’.
Vijay Kumar was booked under relevant sections of the IPC for hurting communal harmony and religious feelings of the Hindus. South zone DCP V. Satyanarayana briefed the entire incident and said the speech of Vijay Kumar was prejudicial to maintenance of harmony which could disturb the public tranquility.

At the Police Station, a visibly shocked Rev. V. Vijay Kumar clarified stating “my intention was not to hurt anybody; my words were misinterpreted. I am a Hindustani and I am proud to be a Hindustani”.

  1. My dear <3 brother|sister, He did not say "“Bharat Mata has 3-Crore husbands”
Instead posed a question on the lines of How many husbands does Bharat Mata have?

  2. Freedom of speech is fundamental right. Now the fundamental rights viz speech, worship even life & protection are not held/ provided.

  3. We should be very judicious in our thoughts and words as we address the congregation in a spiritual gathering. It’s our sacred duty to respect the beliefs of others lest we invite unwanted troubles!
