RESTRICTED BUT NOT DEFEATED!

An outcry to allow greater religious freedom by evangelicals and other faith groups has fallen on deaf ears with no justice being served to persecuted Christians. The mounting restrictions targeting Christian activities by religious fanatics and extremists with the direct persecution of churches and individuals of faith is a sad reminder of the days of freedom struggle.

Today, Christianity is faced with religious intolerance which is a swelling wave comprising of restrictions, attacks and violent assaults.

Persecution Relief shares a vocal and written report from a young woman who along with her family is a victim of religious restrictions.

23-year-old Soumya Prakash(named changed for security reasons) from Samastipur, Bihar along with her husband, children and in-laws are practicing Christians since a year. In the absence of a church in their village, they conduct worship services in their home with other believers. Eight months ago, her sister-in-law was brutally attacked by religious extremists in which she suffered severe head injuries. The incident was reported, a case filed against the miscreants at the police station. The attackers had threatened them with dire consequences if they refused to convert back to Hinduism.

On 24 July, 2021 at 8 a.m. in the morning, a group of the same fanatics forced their entry into the house, rummaged through it causing a ruckus, resorted to violent physical attack and abuses on the women of the house and took off after 3 hours, threatening them that they would return again the next day to harass them if they continued in the Christian faith.

They took off with the Bibles and worship materials hurling death threats at them. The unbearable harassment has been going on for long with absolutely no questioning from the authorities which gives a freehand to these religious groups to use force and violence against the family.

The family is subjected to a daily dose of harassment and are faced with a life-threatening situation simply because they choose to continue to walk in the Christian faith. The movement outside their premises has been shut off so also the freedom to be able to conduct worship in their own homes. The young women receive mouthfuls of filthy abuses whenever they venture out of their home for essential purchases.

Persecution Relief condemns such atrocities against Christian brothers and sisters which prevents them from practicing their faith openly.

The marked attacks on the followers of Christianity in the recent times highlights the security concerns of persecuted Christians. These activities only go on to wound the healthy culture of the nation as religious freedom is haunted by the presence of totalitarianism.

Persecution Relief has been rallying and will continue to do so for a greater unity in prayer and for the persecuted brethren of the Body of Christ. We are One in Christ and believe in praying for even the perpetrators with purpose and confidence in Christ they too may taste the love of God that would drive out hatred from their hearts.

Matthew 5:44 “But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you”
