Resisting land grabbing attempt lands Pastor in jail, Uttar Pradesh
Two brothers have been falsely charged and arrested for allegedly indulging in “unauthorized conversion activities”. These charges appear to have been arbitrarily brought, based on the malicious accusations of their own nephew.
Pastor Ram Chandra from Bilariyaganj, Azamgarh District, Uttar Pradesh had inherited a small parcel of ancestral land. The family were in the process of drawing up plans and clearing the land for the construction of Worship Hall, on this private property.
The hostilities against Pastor Ram Chandra escalated when his nephew Prakash, learned that the land was to be used to construct a Worshiphall. This new development, deeply disturbed him and was determined to stop the construction. This incident, appears to have compounded theirpersonal enmity.
Pastor Ram had visited the branches of the Church in a couple of places, while is son Roshan, was looking after the Church. Learning that his nephew’s family were at the property, making attempts to grab the land, Pastor rushed to the site and expressed strong objection and resisted his attempts.
Finding his plans challenged and confronted, Prakash hatched a plan in retaliation to get Pastorarrested.
Speaking to Persecution Relief, Prakash, son of Pastor Ram, confirmed that his father had been arrested and booked under Section IPC 151. Prakash had lodged a complaint against Pastor, claiming that he had tried to forcefully convert them. He handed over a Bible and other Christian material as an evidence against him.
“On Sunday, 21st April, while the Worship service was in progress, a Police Team stormed in and demanded to stop the service. They proceeded to arrest Pastor Ram Chandra and his Brother Mahendar Ram, and detained them at Bilariya Ganj Police Station under IPC 151.
Church, pray for protection and the peace of God that surpasses human understanding, to abide with Pastor Ram Chandra and his brother.
At the time of this story going to Press, we have just learned that Bro. Omkar Nath, Bro. Guddu Prasad and Bro. Nathaniel Singh, who had gone to the Court, helped in securing their bail for their release.
Pray that God will continue to use him for His glory and honour.
In Uttar Pradesh, the scale of “crack down” against the Christian minority community has been unprecedented, with tighter surveillance of churches and on those who continue to worship a western God, Jesus Christ. In many places, Police patrols are placed outside Churches, guarding the entry, to prevent people from gathering to worship Jesus Christ.
Persecution Relief has recorded more than 129 persecution incidents in Uttar Pradesh, last year, the most hostile among 29 states. In the first quarter of 2019, Uttar Pradesh is leading with 27 incidents of persecution recorded by us. Across the country in India, the doors of a multitude of Churches have been sealed and scores arrested on false charges of indulging in conversion activities.
Church, continue to fast and pray for Uttar Pradesh and for India.
