Religious Fanatics accuse CSI tuition center of religious conversions. Uttarakhand
The Madhya Kerala Diocese is one of the twenty-four dioceses of the Church of South India (commonly referred as CSI). For the past 15 years, they have been running tuition centers for students from grade 1 to 8 in various villages in Dehradun, a district in the Indian state of Uttarakhand.
Mr.Soby George, a missionary who heads the Tuition Centers recently spoke to Persecution Relief. He spoke to us regarding an Annual Get-together that they had organized for their students and their parents which was to take place at an open space behind the home of Mr.Soby George. Prior permission to conduct the program was also taken.
The program was conducted successfully on the 23/11/19, but as lunch was about to be served at around 11:30 am, a group of fanatics arrived at the venue followed by the police. They began to accuse Mr.Soby and his team of religious conversions.
The SSP(Senior Supdt of Police) also arrived at the venue. Inquiring about the permission, rent agreement etc. he asked Mr.Soby to come to the police station at Prem Nagar at 5pm.
Mr.Soby went to the Police station as asked but there were no senior officials present. He was then asked to leave as there were no complaints registered against him.
The northern Indian state of Uttarakhand has become the seventh state in India to adopt a so-called “anti-conversion law”. Cases of persecution are drastically increasing.
Persecution Relief has recorded 330 incidents of hate crime against Christians in 2016, 440 incidents in 2017, 477 incidents in 2018 and till September 2019 we have recorded 349 incidents of Christian Persecution against Christians in India.
