Prayers for peace interrupted with threats of violence, Madhya Pradesh

A Pastor was threatened with dire consequences over charges of him carrying out religious conversions. At the time of the incident, Pastor Naresh Kumar Netam, ministering at Emmanuel AG Church, hails from Niwas Tehsil of Mandla district in Madhya Pradesh, was observing fasting and praying throughout “Good Friday”, at Bro. Premlal Choudhry’s residence. Mandla prominently a tribal district of Madhya Pradesh state in India

Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and His death at Calvary. It is observed during the Holy Week, on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday.

On 06th April, Good Friday, as Pastor and six other Christians congregated at Bro. Premlal’s house, the meeting started around 10 am.  A little while later, an unknown person entered the house. No one recognized this man. However, since this was a prayer meeting and all were welcome, they continued to pray, not paying too much attention to him.

Twenty minutes into the prayer meeting, this person asked Pastor to pray for him, telling him that he was unwell. After the prayer, he stood up and very politely, introduced himself as Thakur, Chief of Hindu Seva Parishad.

The Chief went on to politely tell Pastor Naresh not to visit the village again.

“If I see you in this village again, then be sure that I will call all my team members and things will get worse”

Pastor Naresh called Persecution Relief Founder to brief him about the incident. He informed that he had been harassed several times in the past as well and was grateful for the prayer support received from Persecution Relief.

Praying in one’s own private property is being perceived as a crime in India, especially in states like Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh etc. Accusations of religious conversions have no merit but is used as a pretext to intimidate and spread fear psychosis. Religious fanatics are increasingly picking house churches as targets and they attack these places very strategically, injecting fear among Christians.

Church, please pray for the Hindu Seva Parishad Chief, Mr. Thakur, claiming the power of the Holy Spirit over all the power of darkness.

“Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.” “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good”
