Prayer meetings increasingly targeted across India
This incident took place at Fatehabad District, Haryana. Pastor Jasveer Singh ministers at ‘National Church of India, Haryana Branch, which is headed by Arch Bishop Jonathan Ansar. Worship services and Prayer meetings have been conducted from a rented property for the past 7 years.
On Sunday, 18th February, 2018, Sunday worship service was in progress. A Mrs. Bala who lives in the neighborhood, has been extremely irate, with the worship service being conducted there. During morning worship service, she started shouting abuses, causing a disturbance, threatening the worshippers, demanding for the service to stop, which was unwarranted an unprovoked. She was shouting phrases such as – “Stop this drama”, “Stop fooling people with the name of Jesus Christ”, accusing the Pastor of conducting a charade and fooling people.
A sister worshipping in the Church rushed to meet with her and calm her down, requesting for the worship service to progress. But the Mrs. Bala was infuriated and challenged Sister saying,
“If you don’t stop, I know how to get it stopped”.
Mr. Mansingh had also been troubling Pastor and the Church members for a long time.
Anticipating further trouble, Pastor called the families living in the neighborhood to validate if the Church had been an aggravation or a nuisance in any way for the past 7 years. Unanimously, all families affirmed that having the Church, prayer and worship in the locality was indeed a blessing and comfort to them.
Collectively, a letter was drafted to the Police, signed by all families including the House Owner. Pastor, along with the House Owner took the signed letter to the Dohana City Police Station, to lodge their protest.
The application was handed over to a Police Clerk who was in a civil dress. Unfortunately, no one asked for his name. After reading the contents of the application, the entire conduct and behavior of this individual changed. He was enraged and demanded Pastor’s ID.
“I will need to verify you first”.
This Police Clerk then took him to Sub Inspector (Daroga) of the area, Mr. Devi Lal. As soon as he read the application, his reaction was identical to the Clerk’s. He addressed the House Owner menacingly and told him to throw out the Pastor from the house failing which he would be in trouble.
The House Owner, by the grace of God, countered that he could not ask Pastor to leave.
“Pastor has been good to me and in all these 7 years, he has always paid the rent on time and I have had no problem from the neighborhood residents about the Church”.
Based on this statement, the SI had no option but to accept the Application. However, the officer refused to register the complaint which was within his territorial jurisdiction. No receipt for the complaint was provided – usually a “received “stamp is given by the authority on the photocopy of the complaint. It is the right of the complainant to get a copy of the acknowledgement for their records.
Separately, it has been reported to the Pastor that Mr. Mansingh along with a group of religious fundamentalists, are planning to file a complaint on alleged conversion charges. This alleged charge is the only way of stopping Sunday Worship Service.
Tomorrow, Sunday, is a day of worship. Church, please pray that the God will take control of the situation.
• Pray against the spirit of ‘False allegations’, as they devise deceitful ways to silence the Church of Jesus Christ
• Pray for the persecutors “for they know not what they do”
• Pray against every plan and strategy of satan to be cancelled and destroyed in the name of Jesus Christ
• Pray that God would hide His people under the shadow of His wings, and give refuge and strength to them, until these calamities have passed by.
Our battle is not against flesh and blood. Our warfare is a battle in the spirit that manifests in the natural. “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds. “(2 Corinthians 10:4)
God is unchanging. He is SOVEREIGN, fully trustworthy, faithful, gracious, merciful, forgiving, slow to anger, giver of peace, infinitely wise, eternal, all powerful and all knowing. This is His character. No plan of God’s can be thwarted. Let us humble ourselves and trust Him.
