Sunday worship gathering
A Christian prayer meeting at “Jehovah Jireh’ Church in Jaripatka is located in Nagpur, Maharashtra, was disrupted by religious fanatics. Sis. Smita Bojankar who lives with her mother, heads the church, was threatened with dire consequences if they continued praying.
This House Church has been gathering for the past 3 years. Around 15 persons, mostly women, gather every Saturday and Sunday, to worship Jesus Christ.
On Saturday,17th August, 2019, when the congregation had gathered for prayers, that a mob of fanatics, standing outside the House Church, raising slogans and protesting, alleging that Sis. Smita was involved in conversion activities.
Calling the Toll-Free number, late in the evening and speaking to the Founder, Persecution Relief, Sis. Smita appeared exasperated and angered by the chain of events. She wanted to visit the Police Station and submit an application.
However, she was dissuaded not to visit the Police so late in the evening. After praying and encouraging her to trust God to see her through this situation, the Founder ended the call.
It is alleged that the ‘persecutor’, a woman named ‘Mala Malkere’, who lives in the neighbourhood, claimed that meetings were used to convert people. She threatened that she would not allow the Sunday Worship service to be conducted the following day. To authenticate her claims and to shut down this ‘House Church’, ‘Mala Malkere’ was apparently soliciting signatures from the neighbourhood.
Feeling encouraged and with her faith stirred, Sis. Smitha and 15 members of the congregation gathered the following day, for Worship service, as usual.
Sis. Smitha called back to testify and praise God that Sunday worship went on as usual without any hindrances. She also added that she had learnt from sources that her ‘persecutor’ who was harassing the Church, had suddenly taken ill with a sickness and admitted in hospital.
