Persecution Vs Pandemic, Madhya Pradesh

A complaint was made against 8 Christians by local goons who falsely accused them of forcefully converting people to Christianity by promising them immunity against Covid-19

Religious fanatics have now devised a new type of false allegation to create unnecessary trouble for the Christian community. In certain places, prayers conducted within the privacy of one’s home are being misinterpreted as “A luring of ignorant people and forcefully converting them to Christianity by making them believe that Jesus Christ is the only one who can protect them from the Corona Virus!”

In the first week of April of 2020, a fabricated complaint was made by local religious fanatics to the Superintendent of Police against 8 Christians. They were accused of visiting homes and claiming that conversion to Christianity could provide them with an immunity against the Corona Virus. This happened in a village at Madhya Pradesh, India.

Speaking to Persecution Relief, *Pastor Bunty calmly explained, “This is not true, they are members of my Church and are being persecuted for their faith for over a month now.” *Pastor Bunty has been serving the Lord since 2014. He is an independent Pastor and leads a Church which gathers over 80 Christians from in and around his vicinity.

All 8 Christians live in a village which is around 2kms away from where he lives. They belong to the Kurku community- an Adivasi ethnic group predominantly found in a few Districts of Madhya Pradesh. On the 29th of April, a few Policemen came to the home of the Christians that the complaint was made against. They threatened them against conducting any Christian activities and then took two of the Christians in their vehicle and began to drive towards the police station. Half way to the Police Station, they stopped the vehicle. Giving the two Christians a warning, they made them get off and told them to go back home.

These Christians decided to address these issues with the village committee. The Next day, they had a meeting with the village heads along with the fanatics. What began as a civil discussion soon turned into a heated argument which eventually got out of hand. The police promptly arrived after being informed about the feud. They managed to bring the situation under control and brought both parties to a compromise, making them sign an agreement.

Even though the police brought the locals to an understanding, two religious’ goons from the village who are a part of an extremist group, have instigated the villagers against the Christian families. They have been continually harassing and abusing the Christians.

“A few religious goons also came to my village and were making inquiries about our Church and other Christian activities in my village. They even knew my name” said *Pastor Bunty.

Please pray that the religious goons and the locals would stop persecuting the 8 Christians. Pray for the safety of *Pastor Bunty and the other Christians in that area. Our deepest desire is for God to bring every persecutor of Christians, out of darkness into his marvelous light! Pray that they would soon experience the life transforming power of Christ and be used greatly for the extension of God’s Kingdom. May we continue to pray for and love those who persecute Christ and his Church.

The book of Philemon is a small story with a huge message of forgiveness! Paul was gentle with Onesimus in spite of him robbing and running away from his master-Philemon. Even though Onesimus was a slave, Paul loved him and led him to Jesus Christ. That was not all, Paul also convinced Onesimus to go back to his master and urged Philemon to forgive Onesimus and accept him not as a slave but as a brother in Christ! Those who persecute and wrong us deserve to be forgiven by us, so that none of us would be a slave to sin. God’s love in us is able to touch and soften the hardest of hearts!
