Pastor dragged out and beaten with sticks.Odisha
Lately, we at Persecution Relief have been receiving an increasing number of calls on our Toll Free No 1800-1234-461 reporting Christian Persecution.
On 20/10/19 we received one such call from Pastor Sunaj Suna who works with (IET) and leads the Beersheba Church of God in a village named
Khadenga which is a part of the Raighar Tehsil in Nabarangpur district of the state of Odisha, India.
As usual, on Sunday, 20/10/19,Pastor Sunaj travelled from his village which is 3kms away to gather his church to worship at the residence of a believer named Anpu Harijan.
The Pastor started the worship service by exhorting from Psalm 108 that reads- My heart, O God, is steadfast;I will sing and make music with all my soul.Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn.I will praise you, Lord, among the nations;
I will sing of you among the peoples.For great is your love, higher than the heavens;your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Before he could finish reading the Psalm, a few fanatics from the same village barged into the house and started abusing the believers warning them to stop the worship service.
Unafraid, the Believers were reluctant to stop the worship saying, “why should we stop when we have been worshiping the Lord for so long? who are you to stop us from worshiping our Lord? who has given you the right to do so ? we are worshiping on our own property, not on the streets, we have the freedom to do this.”
Intimidated by the courage of the Christians, the fanatics got some sticks and started beating the believers. The Pastor was pulled by the collar of his shirt and was thrown down and attacked with sticks.
The fanatics left threatening the believers against holding any more meetings. They also warned them not to make a police complaint saying ” otherwise we will make sure that your dead bodies would not be traceable!”
An increasing number of house churchs are attacked in a similar way every week in India, and the Central and State governments and local administration are mere mute spectators. The religious fanatics are not ashamed or fearful about taking the law in their own hands. They are like free birds instilling fear in the hearts and lives of Christians all over the nation of India.
The ward in charge of the local village is the main culprit who is instigating the villagers against the Christians.
We urge all Christians around the world to unite in prayer against such atrocities.
Persecution Relief has recorded 330 incidents of hate crime against Christians in 2016, 440 incidents in 2017, 477 incidents in 2018 and till August 2019 we have recorded 302 incidents of Christian Persecution against Christians in India.
