The Police posse, headed by an Inspector Maurya, came in a Jeep and escorted Pastor back to the Dalmau Police Station, Halka No: 4, Rae Bareli District of Uttar Pradesh State.

Acting on a complaint, Police claims that Pastor was giving money and converting people to Christianity. Pastor was booked under Section 151.

Pastor Roopsen Paswan, ministers with “Assembly Believers Church” in Lalganj Town in Raebareli. The Church, located around 12 kms from his residence, is built on land donated by a believer in the Church. Over 200 believers gather every Sunday to worship.

When the Police insisted that he accompany them to the Police Station, Pastor insisted on knowing the crime he had apparently committed.

“I am a follower of Jesus Christ”, Pastor said.

The Police told him that they had received reports of conversion, charges that Pastor vehemently denied.

“I cannot and will not convert anybody. I share the teachings of Jesus Christ. It is Christ who draws them to Him”, Pastor added.

What is surprising is that, Police who are supposed to be protectors of the law, take the law in to their hands and conduct themselves as though they are the law makers.

Subsequently, Pastor Roopsen was taken to the Court and released on bail.

Speaking to Persecution Relief, Pastor has requested for prayers, as he has received summons again, this time from the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM).

Church, please pray Christians across India, for God’s supernatural protection over all of them.

In Uttar Pradesh, the scale of “crack down” against the Christian minority community has been unprecedented, with tighter surveillance of churches and on those who continue to worship Jesus Christ.

In 2018, Persecution Relief has recorded more than 129 persecution incidents in Uttar Pradesh, the most hostile among 29 states.

In the first four months of 2019, we have recorded 157 incidents of hate crimes against Christians, with 33 cases from Uttar Pradesh alone.
