Mumbai Election Officer appears to defy High Court Verdict. Christian Teachers asked to report on Good Friday for Election Supervision training.

Mumbai Election Officer appears to defy High Court Verdict. Christian Teachers asked to report on Good Friday for Election Supervision training.

In the light of the upcoming election, it has come to our knowledge that Christian teachers have been asked to report for election duty training on Good Friday by a directive that has been issued recently. It is common knowledge that Good Friday is the most sacred of holidays for the Christian community worldwide.

In view of the stern High Court ruling yesterday, which vehemently overturned the draconian cancellation of the Good Friday holiday in Daman and Diu and Dadra Nagar Havelli we request that the Christian teachers be given exemption on that particular day and their training be rescheduled for another day.

Making them to report for work on Good Friday violates their fundamentals rights spelled out in the Article 25 of the Constitution and appears to defy the High Court verdict.

In view of the same I appeal to the Election Commission to take heed of the recent Bombay High Court verdict and comply accordingly.
