Mini Crusade of India Mission stopped, alleging conversion, Bihar

Pr James George

Missionaries with India Mission, Bihar, have been facing intense persecution over the past few months. In spite of the difficulties encountered, they continue to sow in faith, in the hope that the cumulative effects of his labor will bring much eternal good. The faithful Missionaries continue to spearhead the spread of the Gospel message, marching ahead, fearlessly, to fulfill the mandate of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Recently, on Saturday, 9th March, Pastor James George of India Mission along with other team members , was conducting a mini-crusade at the private property of one of the believers Bro. Bittu, at Runnisaidpur Block in Sitamarhi District of Bihar State. Around 50 persons had congregated for the meeting.

Around 9 pm, just as the meeting concluded, a mob of religious fanatics, barged into the private land, accusing the Pastor of indulging in religious conversion activities.

Shouting abuses and screaming slogans in a bid to intimidate and terrorize those gathered there, the mob physically assaulted Pastor and the elders.

As if on cue, the local Police reached the spot and demanded that the meeting be stopped. They accused the missionaries of not securing permission before gathering at the residence of Bro. Bittu.

Colluding with the religious fanatics, the Police refused to listen to the pleas of the missionaries, compelling them to load their music instrument and sound systems into their vehicle and demanded that Pastor Thomas, the Crusade Team Leader and Pastor James George and 3 others accompany them to the Police Station.

Surrounded and pursued by religious fanatics, the Christians were taken to Runni Saidpur Police Station, near Belsand Chowk, Thana Road Sitamarhi District, Runni Saidpur, Bihar.

Pastor Vinod of India Mission and several other well-wishers, called Persecution Relief to inform about the incident.

Persecution Relief Team reached out to the Police Inspector, and narrated the whole incident. The Inspector, on learning the truth of what had transpired, was patient and understanding and released the 4 men, without pressing any charges, by the grace and mercy of God.

Church, many servants of God work in hostile situations like this across India and it is the responsibility of every Church to pray for these servants of God and for the believers that they may stand strong in their faith and that none should be lost.

Let us be united in one Spirit and stand with the Persecuted Church in India, in an hour like this!

In 2018, Persecution Relief recorded 477 incidents of violence against Christians, of which 37 incidents in Bihar alone.
