When, in the midnight hours, Persecution Relief receives a call on its toll free number 1800-1234-461, it is certainly a cry of distress and fear, desperately seeking for help. Persecution Relief is just a call away for believers who face and endure persecution and hardship from a hostile world. We encourage our persecuted brethren to unhesitatingly reach out to us for assistance 24/7. Please share, circulate the phone number or be the voice of the persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ. Here is the story of a sister who was provided our number as the perpetrators refused to cease from harassing her and her family for their faith.
Sis Shanti Devi (name changed for security purpose) her husband Yesudas and her four children along with the grandparents, a devout Christian family living in a village in Hazaribagh district, Jharkhand, finally contacted Persecution Relief after having spent sleepless nights due to the intimidation and threats they have been receiving from religious fanatics and most recently from religious news media agents and government officials.
Sis Shanti Devi and her husband Yesudas have been Christians for the past 22 years working at Mission school, Hazaribagh, Jharkhand that was established there 25 years ago. A mission school that has over 1000 children in attendance over the years and has been helping villagers medically, educationally, socially when there is no help coming to their doorstep from local government authorities is suddenly now a target for the religious extremists.
Reporting falsely and publishing it in local newspapers, the cases of coercive conversion, luring the villagers with monetary help and filling up churches is the new blame game tactic that religious radicals are using against Christian missionaries. As more and more people are experiencing and tasting the love of Christ, the perpetrators of anti-Christian propagandas seem to be at a loss. Sis Shanti Devi and her family were threatened by these newspaper reporters, who operate under the influence of the extremists, to stop reaching out to the needy villagers.
Surprisingly, the Society, which stands in the same place for over 25 years missed the eye of the perpetrators for so long till realization struck them that people accepted the love of Christ over the oppression and negligence of the government authorities that have given them a life of poverty and hardships only. The recent incident and constant harassment of these fanatics who fear losing ground which is used for political gain has been reported to the local police station by the mission head.
‘Religious freedom is the right of every citizen and speaks of true freedom’. Harassing those who take the love of God to the oppressed, ostracized, castaways when none is willing to offer them even a loving word of encouragement in the midst of their suffering exposes the flaws of religiosity. Agendas to enslave people with religious laws based on the caste system only causes division of race and color with the purpose of eradicating God’s commandment of loving ‘thy neighbour as thyself’.
Persecution Relief takes a strong stand against such agendas of religious thoughts and practices of fanatics and extremists that coerces churches, Christian individuals, families, communities to choose between practicing their faith in isolation or risking their rights and livelihoods to serve in God’s love and worship Jesus Christ publicly. Sis Shanti Devi and her family, have our complete support as they continue serving Jesus Christ in Jharkhand.
Conversion is not of religion but of the heart that is done by God for one’s good and no man can stop or stand against God’s love for any person on this Earth. We urge the Body of Christ to proclaim the gospel of love, Jesus Christ, in the face of constant fears and religious extremist raids. We serve a God who has overcome the world and persecution is a part of our journey till we reach eternity promised in Christ.
Please join us in prayers for the persecuted brethren and the Roman Catholic church in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand
Pray God would give Catholic missionaries boldness to speak the truth of Christ in love to the government authorities and news media groups.
Please pray for Sis Shanti Devi, her family and the Christians in Jharkhand to have the courage and strength of God to continue to stand for Him despite opposition and false accusations.
Please pray that the officials would allow Christians to worship and continue in the God-given mission of spreading His love to every person that they would see the truth of Jesus Christ in their own lives.
Pray for the unity in the Body of Christ that would support each member of the Body and bear each other’s burdens cutting loose from the differences of denominations and doctrines and uniting only in one message of Christ which is ‘Love’.

Ephesians 6:19-20, “Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.”
Philippians 1:20 –“According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.”
