Ladies prayer meeting busted, women assaulted, arrested, Uttar Pradesh

Sis Sindhu

A few Sisters – Sindhu Bharti, Anjali, Rinki, Babita along with a dozen more people, were worshipping in the residence of Sis. Madhu Bharti.

While the prayer meeting was in progress, around 1 pm, somebody knocked on the closed door and the small children who had accompanied their mothers, opened the gate. Police men walked in and demanded that the prayer meeting be stopped. The sisters began explaining that they are not doing anything illegal but sitting in their homes and praying.

This infuriated the Policemen, who targeted Sis. Madhu Bharti’s brother, a young lad called Shiva, a 16- year old minor, who is doing his studying for his 1st year B. Com.

He was seated among the group and pushed him against the wall, beating and punching him on his stomach, treating him like a common criminal!

As Shiva, began to cry, the Policemen were forcing him to recant his faith.

“You will not pray to Jesus Christ in the future” the Police man said

“No, I will pray to Jesus” responded young Shiva through his tears.

They dragged him out of the house and made him sit in the Police vehicle. When the sisters questioned the Police on why they were taking the boy into custody, the Police began misbehaving with the womenfolk too!

The sisters insisted that they take all of them into custody and not just the young lad.

Police called in for more back up and soon a Lady Police Inspector and other Policewomen arrived.

“Why are you converting people? Don’t you have gods in the hindu religion?” asked the Lady Police Inspector Vibha Pandey.

“Which god? Our Lord Jesus hears all our prayers and He heals and we get peace with Him.  I have the freedom to worship whom we want’ – responded Sindhu Bharti.

“You will get life imprisonment and you will never come out” said the Inspector

Once they reached the Police Station, Sindhu fainted and fell down. Her body felt cold and she was shivering. When they asked the Inspector for a blanket for Sindhu, she refused and said that she would not give her anything to cover even if she were to die.

“You are converting people and you are getting money from abroad that’s why you follow Christianity”, the Inspector accused.

She then beat Sindhu who fainted again from the beating.  Alleging that she was acting, she poured hot tea into her mouth and burned her. As she was still unconscious, they poured 2 jugs of cold water on her. Her attack on Sindhu was relentless.

Soon, Sindhu began to shiver was shivering with cold, and Inspector Vibha, scared that she might have pushed her too much, got Madhu Bharti to take her to the hospital. Later Sindhu was admitted in the Government Hospital Padrauna.

Religious fanatics have been harassing Christians for the past few weeks. With this incident, worship service has completely stopped. More than 1000 belivers who used to congregate every Sunday, have now, been scared and scattered.

In Uttar Pradesh, the scale of “crack down” against the Christian minority community has been unprecedented, with tighter surveillance of churches and on those who continue to worship a western God, Jesus Christ. In many places, Police patrols are placed outside Churches, guarding the entry, to prevent people from gathering to worship Jesus Christ.

Persecution Relief has recorded more than 129 persecution incidents in Uttar Pradesh, this year, the most hostile among 29 states. Across the country in India, the doors of a multitude of Churches have been sealed and scores arrested on false charges of indulging in conversion activities.

Despite this, the Christian population has grown steadily in recent years. Praise God.

Church, continue to fast and pray for Uttar Pradesh and for India.
