House meeting disrupted by fanatics, detained in Police Station for over 20 hours, Uttar Pradesh

Religious fanatics gate crashed and trespassed into a private residence of while a prayer meeting was in progress, abusing and verbally assaulting the inmates, accusing them of religious conversion.

Pastor K.V. Abraham the Presbyter of AG Western Northern Section, Pastor Sunil Kumar and few others had gathered at Pastor Pramod’s house, in Mawana city in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh.

Around noon, a mob of religious fanatics just walked into the meeting and accused everybody of conversion. They started pushing and physically assaulting the people in the house. They beat the Presbyter without any provocation.

Somebody called the Police, who arrived and took Pastor Abraham, Pastor Pramod, his wife and 2-month old child, Pastor Sunil Kumar and 3 others. They were all detained at Mawana Police Station 12:45 pm until the noon the next day.

Pastor C.P. Raju, Leader of the AG Church, informed persecution Relief. We were also informed through our Toll-Free Number 1800-1234-461. Persecution Relief Team spoke to the SSP Akhilesh Kumar and other Police Officials and appraised about the situation.

Police took down a statement in writing from the Pastors, and eventually released them, without any charges, the following day. They were detained for nearly 20 hours.

This is not the first time that that charges of conversion have been slapped against Christians in this state.According to data recorded with Persecution Relief, Uttar Pradesh experienced a high number of violent attacks against Christians – 111 incidents recorded in the last 11 months of 2018.

Church, pray that these men of God will not be discouraged but continue to be faithful and steadfast in Jesus Christ.

Pray for the reopening of all Churches which have been illegally closed down by religious fanatics in collusion with the administration, across India.
