Extremism is on the rise with several religious fanatic groups involving themselves in organized campaigns of harassment, intimidation, alienation and violence against Christians. Cases of religiously motivated activities against Christians are piling up. Here is one such case which has come to light in the North of India recently.

Sunday, 18 July, 2021, Rev Amar Pritam (name changed for security reasons) was in attendance with a group of 30 Christians to conduct worship at a believer’s home. The worship was organized adhering to the COVID norms with a permission letter in place from the concerned government authorities. While the service was on, one religiously motivated individual stood at the gate of the believer’s home hurling abuses and chants of ‘Har Har Mahadev.’ In his inebriated state, he continued calling out police threats, accusations of spreading COVID and making videos of the worship. He refused to stop screaming despite the women at the worship asking him to back down. It seemed like he was signalling his colleagues to join in. He deliberately continued disturbing the service with shouts of false claims of conversion of religion for money. He even offered to give money to convert. Determined to disrupt the service, he took up stones to throw at the gathering which prompted the women to came out to confront him. His wife then came over to take him home. He did not rest at that and even reached Rev Pritam’s residence a few blocks away to threaten him into discontinuing worship services by instigating his neighbours.

The issues of such continuous campaigns of harassment against Christians is gaining ground. As a part of the Body of Christ, Persecution Relief has been working towards putting in place a comprehensive response in the form of prayers, brotherhood and aid to the victims of persecution. The need to stand in the powerful love of our Lord Jesus Christ against all odds is all the more urgent now than ever. We urge our brothers and sisters in Christ to live out Christ’s life on this Earth and excel in it that the words of our Lord Jesus Christ in John 13:35 shall be established, glorifying our Heavenly Father forever.

“By this shall men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”
