GROWING INTOLERANCE AGAINST HOUSE CHURCH WORSHIP!

Life is becoming precarious for Christians as they gather for worship in their own houses despite following the COVID norms diligently. With the mechanism handled by religious perpetrators to spew out threats, intimidation, harassment and assaults, the Christian community is subjected to the manifestation of their hatred. Coercive conversion is cited as the reason to whip up an anti-Christian atmosphere.

New religious groups have now mushroomed and joined hands to intensify hostility against Christians. The malaise is infiltrating the society with the intent to exert pressure to recant. In the increasing spate of violent incidents against Christians, this recent incident as reported by the victim highlights the concerted attempts of the radical fanatics to disrupt worship services, damage property and possessions and cause harm to innocent lives.

In the evening hours of house church worship recently conducted in late July at a widow’s house in Sidhi District, Madhya Pradesh, the assailants landed up to aggravate the environment of hate and violence against the Christians gathered there. The woman who organized the worship was widowed 25 years ago and is a practicing Christian for a long time now. She along with her son and daughter organizes and conducts worship services regularly at her residence. On this fateful day, Bro. Jagadish Hirelal(name changed for security reasons),who was present at the worship was assaulted with sticks, kicked on his head, chest and spine. The aggressive mob of fanatics first got into an argument with him when they were questioned about their intent in damaging his vehicle. Hurling abuses and threats with allegations of conversion they forced themselves into the house.

Their aggressive behavior continued toward Bro. Jagadish till he fell unconscious. The women gathered there for worship were also manhandled. The perpetrators left the place warning the Christians of dire consequences if they continued worship. After regaining consciousness, Bro Jagadish was administered basic medication for his injuries and he returned back home with his damaged vehicle. As narrated by him, the tormentors kicked his head so aggressively that the left side of his head swelled up.

Even his mobile was not spared. Impunity breeds crime and the report of this incident to the local authorities was brushed aside. Bro. Jagadish has not yet recovered from the severe injuries he suffered and is being administered medical treatment.

The crusade of religious intolerance has shown a sudden frightening rise in the recent times. Reports of violence and hostility have skyrocketed. It is easy to add the anti-Christian incidents to the existing series of unsolved sufferings but to bring home the truth of the price that the persecuted have had to pay is what Persecution Relief has dedicated itself to. We exhort our fellow believers in the Body of Christ to continue in prayers expecting our loving Father in Heaven to guide us in the midst of such overwhelming, horrific issues.

We urge you to not let your own faith become a routine and commonplace but pray that we will not let our brethren down in their sufferings and bear witness to the sacrifices they have had to make in remaining obedient to God while sharing the faith in their daily lives.
