Fanatics barge into home, threaten Pastor
Pr Ramesh congregation
As we look back over the past few months, we have observed an appalling increase of Christian persecution in India. Many Christians within our country still don’thave the freedom to worship without fear or threat wether it’s cities or Villages where believers are beaten and even driven out of their own homes for their faith in Jesus Christ. But the anti-christian, pro-hindu mentality is insidiously working it’s way throughout the length and breadth of India and this should be a wake up call to every Christian in our nation to unite ourselves in prayer knowing that He is a Sovereign and Victorious God.
On 31/10/19 we recieved a call from Pastor Biju Thomas who lives in the Satna district of Madhya Pradesh, India. Pastor Biju ministers at The Church of God, Full Gospel Church located in Satna itself. Speaking to Persecution Relief, he narrated an incident of Christian persecution that happened with his friend and Pastor, Ramesh Kumar Kushwaha.
Pastor Ramesh has been serving the Lord for the past 10 years at Nahod Tehsil which is located in the Satna District of Madhya Pradesh.
Every Sunday Sister Usha Basanna opens up her home to around 80 Christians who gather to pray and worship.
On 28/10/19, Pastor Ramesh held a special prayer meeting at Sister Usha’s home. As he was sharing from the Bible, a group of strangers suddenly walked in and disrupted the meeting. They went straight to the Pastor and started accusing him of converting people. That was not all, they also called him a terrorist and an anti- national, which is a dangerous allegation to make against anybody!
Unafraid of threatening a woman, the fanatics then approached Sister Usha and warned her not to allow any more Christian gatherings to happen at her home. They demanded that Pastor Ramesh should be sent out, but the believers who were on a quest to protect their pastor refused to send him out, saying that they had invited him to the prayer meeting.
The group of angry men left Sister Usha’s residence but waited around the corner of the street hoping that they could grab the Pastor when he left the meeting. The believers who were vigilant and anticipated this move, did not allow Pastor Ramesh to leave for more than 2 hours. The fanatics eventually grew impatient and left. Relieved, the believers then reached the Pastor home to safety.
There are numerous such incidents that are taking place in India even as you are reading this. Many are unreported due to external elements like threats, fear, connectivity etc. Facing a situation like this, as human beings we can easily get discouraged. But let us be encouraged to look to God and Scripture daily for strength, and share in the suffering of Christ and his Church.
Persecution Relief has recorded 330 incidents of hate crime against Christians in 2016, 440 incidents in 2017, 477 incidents in 2018 and till August 2019 we have recorded 302 incidents of Christian Persecution against Christians in India.
