Church, houses razed in demolition drive, Tamil Nadu
Tension prevailed in Anna Nagar 6th Avenue for a few hours following the demolition of a church and a few buildings on Thursday.
According to officials of the Tamil Nadu Housing Board, the church and a few houses were demolished as they were built on encroached land in Thangam Colony on 6th Avenue, Anna Nagar.
During the demolition drive, residents and church members picked up an argument with Chennai Corporation officials.
Corporation officials said the demolition was taken up to widen the road in the TNHB colony and was carried out only after obtaining the necessary permission from the High Court. Six persons were detained based on a complaint from TNHB officials.
