Church building of Karaikal Bible Presbyterian burnt, Pondicherry
Karaikal Bible Presbyterian Church was established in the year 2000, at Pondicherry (or Puducherry), a French colonial settlement in India until 1954, is now a Union Territory town bounded by the southeastern Tamil Nadu state.
Located on ONGC 1st main road, Neravy, Karaikal, Pastor Santosham had established the Church in 2008. At present, around 150 families congregate.
As reported by Bro. Gnanasekaran, brother of Pastor Santosham to Persecution Relief:
On Friday, 25th May, 2018, around midnight, an unidentified miscreant apparently, scaled the wall and trespassed into the Church premises. He allegedly poured petrol around the entire Church building made of bamboo and sheetsand set it alight.
A passerby noticed the smoke and flames and hurried off to alert the neighbours. Pastor Santosham who lives around 500 meters away, rushed to the Church on receiving the news.
While Pastor informed the Police and the Fire Brigade, the fire was quenched even before they reached the spot.
Nothing was spared. Everything item in the Church – furniture, Holy Bibles, Chairs, music instruments, electronic items – were all burnt to ashes.
Pastor Santosham had spent around 2 Lakh rupees renovating the Church in 2017.
Pastor has lodged a complaint with the Police, who are yet to make any arrests for this arson attack. The is alleged that a ‘Selvaraj’, living in the neighborhood, who has been actively opposing the Church and Pastor Santosham over the last few months, could be responsible for this act.
Church, please pray that Pastor Santosham will not be discouraged but will pick up the pieces and press on to serve God
Pray for the congregation members that God would remove all fear and intimidation in the name of Jesus, that they would be united and together, continue to praise and worship God.
Pray that God will forgive the perpetrators of this crime and bring transformation to their lives.
