Christians need sanctification, Bihar.
A few religious zealots have been pestering an evangelist and his family to take part in a Ghar Wapsi ritual so that they would be made clean through the sanctification process.
‘Covid-19 Does Not See Race, Religion, Colour Or Caste Before Striking,’ Says PM Modi. However, the attitude of religious fanatics across India still stays the same. It seems like their only agenda is to find ways to harass and falsely accuse the Christian community which amounts to a meagre 2.3 % of the population in India.
Persecution Relief recently received a call about an incident which happened in Bihar, a state in India. An Evangelist working with one of the leading Christian denominations is being severely harassed by some high class Hindus from his village.
One of the Hindu persons from the village went to the Evangelist’s home and began accusing him of being foolishly converted to Christianity. He recommended that the evangelistand his family should go through a sanctification process as Christians become unclean because they eat meat!
In his response to the accusation, the evangelist tried to explain to him about his faith by saying, “I don’t follow any religion and have not even bothered to change my name. I have only started following Jesus Christ who is The Way, The Truth & The Life.”
The religious fanatic who was not convinced with the evangelist’ response, made another allegation questioning, “when your father died, why didn’t you perform the last rites according to the Hindu religion? To which the evangelist replied, “my father died around 4 years ago, why are you digging up the past?, youhave only come to my house with an intention to harass and threaten me.”
Feeling tormented, the evangelist then pleadingly asked the religious fanatic, “why are you doing this to me and my family? Have we done wrong to you or anybody in the village? Are weinvolved in any activities that bring the village to a point of embarrassment? We have only been praying for the well being of everybody in the village, then why so much of hatred against us?
The evangelist has been a follower of Christ since 2010. Over the past 10 years, no one has had an issue with Christianity and he has never faced a situation like this. He even went on to ask his persecutor what had corrupted his mind to have turned against him.
This neighbour and religious fanatic has been accusing the evangelist and his family without any solid reason and pesteringthem to go through a sanctification process and participate in a ‘Ghar Wapsi’ ceremony(return to Hindu faith).
Speaking to Persecution Relief, the Evangelist was disappointed about being unreasonably threatened and harassed however, he and his family are strong in the Lord and have shown courage in the face of persecution.
Church please pray for Christian leaders alike who are suffering daily for the sake of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Pray that they may be strong and courageous and will fight till the end, even if they have to lay down their life for the sake of Christ. Pray that the religious fanatics would stop harassing the evangelist and his family and that God would meet with them in a special way and transform their lives for His glory.
