Pastor Ratne Sunah has been ministering at Garhi Cantt, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, for several years. He along with a few other local Pastors and believers, had prayed, planned and preparing for a “Healing Meeting”. They had secured the necessary permissions from the village authorities.
However, as the local religious fanatics and religious leaders got to learn about the “Healing Meeting”, there was strong resistance from them. Fearing reprisal and ugly turn of events, the meeting permission was revoked and cancelled.
On 02nd July, disappointed about the cancelled meetings, the main organisers of the event and a few brothers gathered at Pastor Ratne Suna’s house for a time of prayer and reflection. After the meeting and having lunch, Pastor Rante Sunah, Pastor Anil Awagare (Speaker who was scheduled to speak at the event), Pastor Yona, Bro. Elijah, Pastor Amit Kumar, Bro. Akhil, all alighted the car and leave the village.
As though pre-planned, a mob of religious fanatics, the 6 Christians were ambushed and forcibly stopped by religious fanatics. They were physically manhandled and accosted by the fanatics, and falsely accused of being involved in conversion activities.
What followed was an angry exchange of words, hostile abuses and accusations by the fanatics. Police arrived and the team were taken under duress to the Police Station.
Eventually, after the intervention of several senior Police Officers, listening to both sides of the story, the entire team were released, after a few hours, without any charges.
