Christian Teacher Attacked On Social Media, Madhya Pradesh.
Pastor Matthew and his wife, Sister Boossy Roby live in Sehore, a city and a municipality in Sehore district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.
Pastor and his wife serve with multiple ministries, a few of which involve ministering to the prisoners in jail and the rehabilitation of sexually abused children. Apart from these ministries, Sister Boossy also teaches music and song in a private school and she has a youtube channel named as “Boossy Roby “, which contains the songs God helped her to compose. Some unknown people have targeted her channel and used very abusive words and said these are the words of Jesus Christ for the singer.
On the 22nd of January 2020, Dr.Beena called Sister Boossy to inform her about a few videos that were uploaded by some miscreants on Instagram (an American photo and video-sharing social networking service owned by Facebook, Inc.) This information was given to Dr.Beena by a few of her students.
The video was of a young man that is widely known on social media as ‘desi bhau’, who is immensely popular amongst the youth for his videos that involve the use of high levels of profanity, which is targeted to demean individuals of his choice. The content in this video was targeted at Sister Boossy and had lots of pro Hindu Slogans, including ‘Jai mahaKal’ and many more. The name of Jesus Christ was misused and misinterpreted in several ways in the video. The comment on the video read, ‘please like and if you want to view the second part, share this video’
Sister Boossy immediately went to the SP’s office to report the offence and file an application. There she was told by the Additional SP to get a screen recording and URL of the video , in case it gets deleted in the future. He also said that an email would be sent to Instagram to report the case.
Later, Sister Boossy was informed by a friend that there was some more activity on the Instagram account. When Sister Bossy checked, there was a count down timer displayed, urging viewers to wait until the next video was uploaded. The next day, at 11am, the next video was uploaded. The user also put up an alert on another feature called ‘InstaStories’ which is viewable for 24 hours only. Notes, picture and videos etc. can be posted on it. The alert gave a time at which they would repost the same videos. These videos were continually being posted and shared from the 23rd of January onwards.
Boossy then approached the state Cybercrime office in Bhopal, where she met Mr.SandeshJain, the Additional Superintendent of Police. She was told that the IP address would be given to her only when a court case is filed and an application was given by a lawyer. They also told her not to keep her hopes up to receive any response from Instagram as they sometimes take months to reply. Furthermore, they redirected her back to her local police station saying that the issue has happened there, so it will be dealt with by the Sehore Police, but would still try do what they could to help. Boossy submitted an application to the Bhopal Cyber Crime Police as well.
Speaking to Persecution Relief about her ordeal, Bossy expressed the urgency to uncover the person behind this crime. “How can any one profane the name of Jesus Christ, a Holy God?”
A while back, Boossy had attended the Madhya Pradesh IPC meeting where she had heard the Founder of Persecution Relief, Mr. Shibu Thomas speak. It was during the meeting that she got more information about the organization and decided to call us. Mr. Thomas has promised to speak to the SP and provide any kind of help that would be necessary.
Psalm 108:12,13 says, ‘ Give us help from trouble, for the help of man is useless. Through God we will do valiantly, For it is He who shall tread down our enemies.’
We requests prayers for Boossy and her family. Through this hurtful and discouraging challenge they may find peace and courage.
Pray for the people who have profaned the name of God while demeaning Sister Boossy on social media. That they may not use social media to hurt religious sentiments and spread false accusations against Christians. Pray that God would meet with them and use them for his Glory.
Pray for the millions of people, especially the youth who fall prey to such atrocities. That they would be discerning regarding the abundant and often misleading information that is freely available on the internet.
