Christian Couple Assaulted,Bihar.
A couple was brutally assaulted inside their home by relatives and local religious fanatics on account of their faith in Jesus Christ in Bihar.
On the 3rd of May at 10:30pm in the night, a relative along with a few religious fanatics forced their way into the home of *Ram and *Maya, an aged couple and mercilessly beat them up because of their faith in Jesus Christ. *Maya was left unconscious and bleeding on her head while *Ram who was repeatedly choked and slapped, lay broken and bruised in their compound. Although many villagers came out of their homes to see what was going on, no one came forward to help as they are all against them following Christianity. The next morning, their daughter and son-in-law who live 10kms away in a neighboring village, rushed them to the local government hospital after they were informed about the attack.
*Nandu, a Pastor and son of the victims. Spoke to Persecution Relief and narrated the entire incident. He has been serving the Lord since 2015 and lives in a village which is around 200kms away from where his parents reside. Pastor Nandu accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 2005. Back then, the whole village was against his new found faith. Gradually, his parents and a few villagers began to show interest in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and began to meet regularly to pray together. Many villagers were against this practice and started threatening to boycott the family.
The Sarpanch (village head) called for a meeting and told Pastor Nandu that if he did not forsake Jesus, he would have to leave the village. Moreover, he made it clear that no one would eat at their home, and they would not be allowed to eat at anybody else’s home. A few religious fanatics also went to the police station to make a complaint against Pastor Nandu, but the police warned them that cases involving religion are very complicated and would cause more trouble to them, so they changed their minds.
In the course of time, Pastor Nandu was pledged to be married, but the villagers did not allow him to get married in the villagebecause he was a Christian. All those who used to gather to pray at his home, stopped coming there. Even his father stopped acknowledging Jesus Christ. Only Pastor Nandu’s mother stayed strong in her faith and continued to pray faithfully.
In 2019, Pastor Nandu was able to bring his entire family back to Jesus and strengthen their faith in Him. His father, mother, brother, sister and their respective spouses, all made a decision to follow Jesus Christ, no matter what. Every Sunday the family used to travel over 150kms away to attend Sunday services as there were no churches close by. Soon, the opposition from the villagers grew fierce. Their neighbor, who is also a witch doctor, did not like the prayers that went on in their home. She began to instigate the villagers even more, against them. Daily, Pastor Nandu’s family was harassed. The neighbor would pick up petty fights with them only to cause a commotion and create trouble.
Late that night on the 3rd of May, it was the neighbor’s son who broke into Pastor Nandu’s home and assaulted his parents. A fellow believer and friend from the neighboring village called Pastor Nandu at 1am to inform him about the attack. Sadly, the district that Pastor Nandu’s parents live in is a Red Zone, which is currently sealed to avoid the spread of Covid-19. He is unable to go to look after his parents and eagerly awaits the day he can reach out to them.
Pastor Nandu’s brother-in-law was summoned by the village head where he was informed that the persecutors had cunningly gone to the police station while they were at the hospital and made a false complaint against them. However, the village head stated that he had asked the perpetrators to withdraw the complaint for the sake of peace and requested Pastor Nandu’s family to come to a compromise with the fanatics. The village committee even promised to pay for the damages that were caused during the attack, but they don’t seem to be keeping up to their promise.
Pastor Nandu’s Mother sustained injuries to her ribs and received 10 stitches to her head. She is currently recuperating along with her husband. In the past, Pastor Nandu’s parents have been attacked many times because of their faith in Jesus Christ. Earlier, Pastor Nandu’s family used to live peaceably with everyone in the village, but ever since they began to follow Jesus Christ, they have been facing tremendous persecution.
Let’s pray for the safety and quick recovery of Pastor Nandu’sparents. Pray that Pastor Nandu would be able to join his parents as soon as possible. Let’s also pray for the local religious fanatics, pray that they would stop harassing Pastor Nandu’s family and turn from their wicked ways and meet with Jesus Christ in a special way.
‘Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever’ Psalm 125:1. We can lift our eyes above our troubles and problems because Jesus is the rock and foundation that we stand on. We shall not be moved. He is our refuge and our strength, our ever present help in time of trouble.
