NEW DELHI: External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj and Congress member Shashi Tharoor traded barbs in Lok Sabha on Wednesday over making Hindi an official language at the UN.

After Swaraj asserted that the government was willing to go to any lengths to get Hindi the status of official language in the UN, Tharoor questioned the government’s need to push a language that was spoken by the people of only one country.

Tharoor said, “Hindi is not the national language, it is an official language.” While the PM or foreign minister were free to speak in Hindi and take pride in it if they wanted to, Tharoor said there was no need to impose the language on future leaders who may represent non-Hindi speaking states.

  1. The pride of India is Republic, Secularism, Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Ashoka’s Dharma Chakra & purity of white in the National Flag. Let UN wonder on seeing the genuineness of these & honour Hindi in the listing.

  2. They are diverting our attention with stupid arguments like language and ignoring the serious issues like lynching, persecution of Christian, Muslims and GDP… they somehow was to pass time till next elections

  3. Yes a big applaud ?for these ministers who
Trying to impose Hindi language as India’s official language, these are the same Hindu ministers who send their children to study abroad in Christian schools and want their children to be well educated and master the language English while they impose as Hindi as official language in India for others despit knowing India Well well well

and these are the ministers who you will find always travelling abroad they are the ministers looking after themselves theirs and their families pleasures
